HURLING

The junior hurlers shared the spoils with Galmoy in their fourth round match of the JJ Kavanagh Junior League in Cloneen HC Grounds on Sunday evening. Conahy led by 0-13 to 0-10 at half time and an early second half goal from substitute Patrick Kennedy soon increased their lead. But the Galmoy men fought back as the second half progressed, and with time almost up, had opened up a two point lead. But two pointed frees from Edmond Delaney levelled the game, and though Conahy had a third free to win the game, it went narrowly wide. The final whistle blew with the sides level at Conahy’s 1-23 to Galmoy’s 2-20. The locals will be back in action on Sunday week, September 6th, when they play Emeralds in Canon Kearns Park at 1.00 p.m.

The minor hurlers are due to play on Monday night in the Kilkenny Vehicle Centre Roinn B League/Championship against Piltown in Jenkinstown at 7.00 p.m. They will also be back in action next Monday night, August 31st, when they travel away to play Kilmacow at 7.00 p.m.

CAMOGIE

The intermediate camogie girls lost out to Mooncoin in their second round game of the Abbott Intermediate League in Mooncoin on Sunday morning. The opening half was an even affair with the sides level at 0-5 apiece at the half time break. An early second half goal from Molly O’Dornan was a boost to Conahy, but Mooncoin responded clinically with 1-7 without reply to open up a commanding lead. Conahy battled hard and replied with points of their own, but Mooncoin were full value for their victory, winning in the end by 2-18 to 1-11. Conahy are back in action on Sunday week, September 6th, when they play host to Barrow Rangers at 11.00 a.m.
