HURLING

The junior hurlers scored a deserved win over Emeralds in their final group game of the JJ Kavanagh Junior League in Canon Kearns Park on Sunday last. The sides were level at half-time with Conahy scoring 1-7 to Emeralds’ 0-10, the Conahy goal coming from Mark Gunner. Emeralds did take the lead during the early stages of the second half, but Conahy finished strongly with some good scores to win out by 1-20 to 0-18.

The minor hurlers lost out to a strong Lisdowney side in their most recent game in the Kilkenny Vehicle Centre Roinn B League in Lisdowney on Friday night last. Lisdowney were the better team from the early stages, and although Conahy fought back well in the second half to reduce the deficit, Lisdowney finished strongly to win out by 5-15 to 2-14. Conahy are back in action on Thursday evening when they play host to Graignamanagh in Jenkinstown at 6.30 p.m.

The under-16 hurlers scored a good win over Tullaroan last Wednesday night in their previous game in the Duggan Steel Roinn C League/Championship in Jenkinstown. The exchanges were even in the opening half but Conahy were by far the stronger team in the second half and ran out comfortable winners by 2-26 to 3-8. They were due to play away to Slieverue in their next game on Tuesday evening at 7.00 p.m.

CAMOGIE

The intermediate camogie girls were defeated by Barrow Rangers on Sunday morning last in their third round game in the Abbott Intermediate League Championship in Jenkinstown. Conahy battled into a strong wind in the opening half as the visitors led by 1-6 to 0-4 at the break. However, they could not turn the tide in the second half, despite reducing the deficit to three points at one stage. In the end, Barrow Rangers were deserving winners by 3-12 to 1-8. Conahy will now look towards the knockout stages of the championship in the coming weeks.

The junior camogie girls enjoyed a good win over Emeralds in the Junior D Championship in Jenkinstown on Friday night last. Conahy were strong all through and won out by 3-16 to 1-6.

The under-16 girls are due to host Slieverue on Tuesday night at 6.30 p.m. in the St. Canice’s CU Roinn D championship quarter-final in Jenkinstown. Also, both the minor and under-14 camogie girls will be in action this coming weekend. The under-14 girls will play host to Piltown in the St. Canice’s CU Roinn D quarter-final on Saturday at 11.00 a.m. in Jenkinstown. The minor girls will travel away to Kilmacow on Sunday morning for the St. Canice’s CU Roinn D shield final at 11.00 a.m.
