HURLING

The junior hurlers scored an excellent win over Fenians in the opening round of the JJ Kavanagh Junior Championship on Sunday afternoon last in Cloneen. Conahy led by 2-7 to 0-8 at half time thanks to two opportunist goals from Mark Gunner. The locals improved their performance further in the second half, scoring 1-12 to Fenians’ 0-5 in that time, with the third Conahy goal coming from James Bergin. The final score saw Conahy the deserved winners by 3-19 to 0-13. They will now face Kilmacow in the second round on this Saturday afternoon at 2.30 p.m. in Danesfort. The minor hurlers shared the spoils with Graignamanagh in their most recent game in the Kilkenny Vehicle Centre Roinn B League in Jenkinstown on Wednesday last. A late come back from the visitors ensured that they snatched a draw with the final action of the game to level the scores at Conahy’s 4-15 to Graignamanagh’s 2-21. Conahy will next play Kilmacow on Wednesday night at 6.30 p.m. in Kilmacow.

The under-16 hurlers made the long journey to Slieverue on Tuesday night last to play the home side in the Duggan Steel Roinn C League/Championship, with the home side securing the win on a 3-13 to 2-10 score line. Conahy now look forward to a championship outing in the coming weeks.

The under-14 boys had a busy week with two matches against O’Loughlin Gaels and Cloneen respectively in the Duggan Steel Roinn D League. O’Loughlin’s were the deserving winners on Wednesday night last in St. John’s Park, winning by 2-8 to 0-5. However, Conahy had a great win away to Cloneen on Friday night last, winning 5-10 to 3-12. They are back in action next Friday night when they host Danesfort in Jenkinstown.

The intermediate camogie girls play Rower-Inistioge in the opening round of the Abbott Intermediate championship on this Sunday morning at 11.00 a.m. The venue for the game has still to be confirmed at the time of writing. Best of luck to all involved.

The minor girls scored a good win away to Kilmacow in St. Canice’s CU Roinn D shield final on Saturday evening last. Some great scores along the way saw the locals win out by 9-6 to 3-7. Well done to everyone involved.
